Care fund backs housing plan
The Community Care Fund Task Force has shown its support for the Modular Social Housing Scheme on Nam Cheong Street in Sham Shui Po.
The task force agreed to subsidise the scheme, run by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, with a total of $35.7 million for building modular houses.
The proposal will be submitted to the Commission on Poverty for consideration.
Secretary for Labour & Welfare Dr Law Chi-kwong, also the task force's chairperson, told reporters after the meeting today that members believe the scheme is effective and worth supporting.
He said the Government will review the scheme in two years to see if it is an effective way to increase transitional housing in the future.
“This pilot programme will help the Government to consider whether this kind of modular housing can be built more or in a much larger scale in the future if needed.
“We are optimistic and therefore we, from the Community Care Fund's point of view, support this pilot programme. Hopefully that would provide information for the future consideration for the Government.”
