Apology issued over data loss

The Sha Tin District Office (STDO) apologised to the people affected for any inconvenience caused after a report of loss of personal data of service users from a Sub-district Care Team.

 

​Last night, the operating organisation of the City One Sub-district Care Team, ie City One Shatin Ladies' Association reported to the STDO that a document was suspected to be lost by a team member while working outside on September 10.

 

The document contains the names, telephone numbers and addresses of 39 service users of the City One Sub-district Care Team.

 

The operating organisation reported the incident to Police immediately and notified the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data.

 

The operating organisation is reviewing and will further strengthen its security measures, it also reminded all affected service users to be vigilant.

 

Anyone who suspects a person of impersonating a member of the City One Sub-district Care Team may contact the care team or the STDO to verify the person's identity.

 

The STDO has set up a hotline 5394 4751 for enquiries. It has issued a warning letter to the care team regarding the incident, instructing it to strictly abide by the guidelines on proper handling and confidentiality of personal data in the future.

 

The Home Affairs Department has also reminded all care teams again to stay vigilant and further strengthen security measures and stressed that they should continue to handle and keep personal data confidential according to the guidelines.
