Victory Day tribute held
Acting Chief Executive Chan Kwok-ki and senior government officials attended an official ceremony held by the Government at the City Hall Memorial Garden this morning to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The event included a rendition of the national anthem, a flag-raising ceremony, a rifle volley by the Police Rifle Squad, the observation of silent mourning, wreath laying by the Guard of Honour, and bowing in tribute.
Also attending the ceremony were Secretary General of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Wang Songmiao, Deputy Head of the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR Chen Feng, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Hong Kong SAR Li Yongsheng, and Deputy Commander-in-chief of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison Tan Zhiwei.
The Acting Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal, members of the Executive Council and the Legislative Council, Hong Kong deputies to the National People’s Congress, Hong Kong SAR members of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Consuls-General were also present.
Other attendees included representatives from the District Councils, Heung Yee Kuk and district organisations, veterans and representatives from war veteran groups, as well as uniformed groups representatives, youth representatives, and secondary school students.
