Typhoon Wipha leaves HK
The Hong Kong Observatory downgraded the storm signal from No. 8 to No. 3, as Typhoon Wipha moved away from the city this evening.
The No. 8 Southeast Gale or Storm Signal, issued at 4.10 this afternoon was replaced by the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 at 7.40pm.
The Hospital Authority said that 33 people received medical treatment at public hospitals due to typhoon-related injuries.
During the storm, the Government's 1823 Call Centre received 286 reports of fallen trees and the Fire Services Department received 425 reports, while the Drainage Services Department received seven flooding cases.
The Buildings Department received 21 reports of building-related incidents mainly involving unstable windows. Five reports of collapsed scaffolding were received.
Typhoon Wipha did not result in any landslide incidents.
Meanwhile, the Home Affairs Department opened 34 temporary shelters at which 277 people sought refuge.
Relevant government departments have begun inspections of roadside trees, structures including external walls and signboards, slopes and construction sites to identify locations with potential risks to ensure public safety.
The Government urged the public to remain vigilant when going outdoors and avoid staying under trees, signboards, structures with signs of concrete spalling or in the vicinity of slopes. Call the 1823 hotline to report dangerous trees, slopes and structures.
