Marathon test event plans set

February 13, 2025

Head of the National Games Coordination Office (Hong Kong) Yeung Tak-keung and relevant government officers today outlined the arrangements of the 2025 Shenzhen-Hong Kong marathon and the 15th National Games athletics (marathon) test event to be held in the two cities on February 23.

The event comprises the men’s and women’s races, with the women’s group to depart at 7am and the men's to set off at 7.30am.

The entire track is 42.195km long, of which 21.841km is the Hong Kong section. Setting off from Shenzhen Bay Sports Center, runners will enter Hong Kong via Shenzhen Bay Port, run along Shenzhen Bay Bridge and Kong Sham Western Highway Viaduct, then head back to Shenzhen Bay Port through the same route, and finish at Shenzhen Bay Sports Center.

The athletes will enter the Hong Kong section upon completion of approximately 2km of the race route. Both groups are expected to spend around two hours in the Hong Kong section.

At a press conference today, Police announced that they will implement special traffic arrangements in view of the cross-city race.

Clearance services at Shenzhen Bay Port will be suspended until about 11am on that day.

Moreover, temporary control measures will be implemented at Shenzhen Bay Bridge, Kong Sham Western Highway and Ha Tsuen Interchange from 2am to about 11am. These will be closed to all traffic from eastbound and westbound Yuen Long Highway, and Ha Tsuen Road.

During the suspension of clearance services, cross-boundary goods vehicles and private cars holding valid permits for Shenzhen Bay Port may divert to Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang Port, Man Kam To Port and Heung Yuen Wai Port.

After Shenzhen Bay Port’s clearance services have resumed, traffic arrangements will be implemented by phases, depending on actual conditions, Police added.

Furthermore, to accommodate the event and ensure public safety, a two-kilometre extension of the Hong Kong section will be set up as a restricted flight zone from 6am to 12noon on the event day.
