Suspension of classes set

September 5, 2024

As the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) will issue Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 at 6.20pm today due to Super Typhoon Yagi, the Education Bureau announced that it is suspending today’s classes of evening schools and tomorrow’s classes of all day schools.

When the HKO issues the Pre-No.8 Special Announcement this afternoon, classes of all day schools, including secondary and primary schools, will also be suspended.

Apart from advising schools to implement contingency measures to ensure the safety of students, the bureau stressed that they should also ensure that conditions are safe before allowing students to return home.

Meanwhile, the HKO stated that it expects gale winds associated with Super Typhoon Yagi to affect the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary tonight and tomorrow morning. It pointed out that local winds will strengthen progressively and the weather will deteriorate, adding that there will be heavy squally showers and thunderstorms tomorrow.

Considering the latest development and the HKO's forecast of the tropical cyclone, the bureau announced that classes of all day schools, including secondary schools, primary schools, special schools, kindergartens, and kindergartens-&-child care centres, will remain suspended tomorrow.

Additionally, if classes concerning evening schools are required to be suspended tomorrow, the bureau noted that it will make such an announcement in due course depending on the development of the tropical cyclone.
