Tse Chin-wan tours cultivation spots

Secretary for Environment & Ecology Tse Chin-wan today visited the modern and high-tech core demonstration base for agriculture at the Jiangdu Modern Agricultural Industrial Park in Yangzhou.

 

Along with the Legislative Council Panel on Food Safety & Environmental Hygiene, Mr Tse sought to learn about the latest developments in vegetable and fruit production, processing, and seedling cultivation during the visit.

 

The delegation then toured a biotechnology company in Yangzhou specialising in mushroom cultivation, to better understand the latest developments in smart cultivation of edible fungi and how scientific agriculture can enhance food safety.

 

Mr Tse said that he welcomes the import of high-quality food from Jiangsu Province to Hong Kong to enrich people’s food choices and strengthen trade connections between the two places.

 

In the afternoon, the delegation visited an agricultural ecological development enterprise in Nanjing, during which they received a briefing on the company’s work on freshwater shrimp farming, vegetable cultivation, agricultural product processing, and cold chain storage and transportation.

 

The company’s staff also shared their experiences on leisure farming and fisheries.

 

Afterwards, the group explored the modern fisheries farming facilities and systems at an aquaculture enterprise to learn more about their work on aquaculture, commercial fish sales, aquaculture technology research and development, and more.

 

Apart from conducting in-depth discussions with the staff on topics such as smart management, efficient facilities and high-quality breeding, the delegation exchanged experiences on upgrading and transforming the fisheries industry towards modern, high-yield, high-quality, efficient and ecological sustainable operations.
