Public invited to name new estates

August 1, 2024

The public is being invited to propose Chinese names for two public housing estates under development in the Kwu Tong North and Fanling North New Development Areas.

Organised by the Development Bureau's Northern Metropolis Co-ordination Office (NMCO) in collaboration with the Housing Authority, the Northern Metropolis Estate Naming Competition is open for entries from today until September 15.

NMCO Director Vic Yau said intake of tenants at the estates will commence progressively from 2026.

He explained that the NMCO hopes to use the competition to raise public understanding of these new communities, promote public engagement and enhance a sense of belonging to the communities.

Located in Kwu Tung North Area 19 and Fanling North Area 15 East, the two estates to be named are scheduled for completion in phases from 2026 to 2027. They will be the first public housing estates to be completed in the Kwu Tong North and Fanling North New Development Areas, and will consist of 18 residential buildings, providing about 15,100 rental units and accommodating a population of about 38,000.

A winner will be selected for each estate and will be awarded a cash prize of $3,000. The winning entries will serve as points of reference in the future naming of the estates by the Housing Authority.
