HK swimmer bags Olympic bronze
Chief Executive John Lee today congratulated Hong Kong swimming athlete Siobhan Bernadette Haughey for claiming Olympic bronze in Women’s 200m Freestyle event, the second medal won by the Hong Kong, China Delegation at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“Siobhan demonstrated superb skills and performed at her best in the competition. She showcased her power and strength as an elite athlete and achieved an outstanding result again of capturing a bronze medal, after winning two silver medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
“All Hong Kong people and I are glad and proud of her great performance,” Mr Lee said.
Also congratulating Miss Haughey, Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung said in Paris that the swimmer went to full lengths to claim a medal.
“Together with other Hong Kong citizens, I cheer for her with excitement. She is also commendable for winning in two consecutive Olympic Games. I wish Hong Kong athletes more sterling results in the Paris Olympics.”
Miss Haughey has achieved outstanding results in recent years, including nabbing the gold medal in the Women’s 100m and 200m Freestyle events at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou and the silver in the same events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
