Contractor suspended from bidding
The Development Bureau has suspended the contractor involved in today's fatal industrial incident at a construction site in Kwai Chung from tendering for public works contracts.
The bureau noted that the contractor concerned was on the List of Approved Contractors for Public Works.
Apart from notifying the contractor of its suspension from tendering for the site formation category of public works contracts with immediate effect, the bureau also requires the contractor to undergo an independent safety audit to review its safety management system.
The contractor must also take heed of the audit’s findings and submit an improvement action plan and implement measures to demonstrate that it has an effective safety management system in place, before removal of the suspension can be considered.
The suspension applies not only to future tender exercises, but also those in which procedures have been initiated but not concluded.
Relevant government departments are investigating the industrial incident and will handle it in accordance with the law.
Based on the investigation’s findings, the bureau will impose further regulatory actions on the contractor concerned.
