Parent education framework launched
The Education Bureau today launched the Curriculum Framework on Parent Education (Secondary School), encouraging schools and bodies to make reference to its content when designing programmes and activities.
In accordance with the recommendations of the Task Force on Home-school Co-operation & Parent Education, the bureau explained that it has commissioned the Baptist University’s School of Continuing Education to develop such curriculum in phases for parents of kindergartens, primary and secondary school students.
The Curriculum Framework on Parent Education (Secondary School) comprises four core strands, namely "Understanding of Adolescent Development", "Promotion of Healthy, Happy & Balanced Development of Adolescents", "Promotion of Parents' Physical & Psychological Well-being" and "Fostering Home-school Co-operation and Communication", with a focus on supporting adolescents’ development needs.
All secondary schools, including special schools, are urged to make reference to the curriculum framework and select, arrange and design parent education activities according to the school-based context.
Organisations or groups such as Parent-Teacher Associations, Federations of Parent-Teacher Associations, post-secondary institutions and non-governmental organisations, can refer to the framework to design and provide programmes or activities that meet the needs of parents of students at the secondary level.
Additionally, the bureau pointed out that parents can study the curriculum framework to understand children's development and learning needs in a systematic manner.
