Chief Executive John Lee today met visiting CPC Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee Secretary Liu Ning to discuss strengthening Hong Kong-Guangxi co-operation.

Mr Liu is leading a delegation to attend a series of events on developing Guangxi as an important strategic hinterland of the Greater Bay Area.

Mr Lee said Guangxi can make good use of Hong Kong’s advantages as a bay area core city to better grasp the opportunities brought about by the initiative and achieve complementarity.

The Chief Executive highlighted that Guangxi serves as the country’s bridgehead to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and that ASEAN has long been Hong Kong’s second-largest trading partner.

Mr Lee added that he believes Hong Kong-ASEAN economic ties will continue to grow and said the city can play an important role in promoting Guangxi’s external trade, with both places enjoying mutual benefits and unlimited business opportunities.

He said the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will continue to work with the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Government to pursue higher-level, deeper and broader collaboration.

It will also promote co-operation between Hong Kong and Guangxi in trade and economic activity, as well as transportation, logistics, culture and education, he added.
