Unemployment rate stays at 3%
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 3% for the period between February and April, unchanged from the January-to-March figure, the Census & Statistics Department announced today.
The underemployment rate also remained unchanged, at 1.1%.
Total employment increased by around 5,700 to 3,694,100, while the labour force grew by around 7,700, to 3,807,800.
The number of unemployed people increased by around 2,000 to 113,700. The number of underemployed people was 40,500, about the same as the January-to-March figure of 40,000.
Noting that the unemployment rates of various sectors remained low in general, Secretary for Labour & Welfare Chris Sun said the labour market will likely remain tight in the near term as the economy continues to grow.
