In response to the charging of three men for violating the UK National Security Act, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government seriously demands that the UK government handle the matter fairly.

Chief Executive John Lee made the remarks today concerning the case that names the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office’s (ETO) Office Manager in London.

“We have seriously demanded the UK side to fairly handle the matter, effectively protect the legitimate rights and interests of the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office’s Office Manager, who was alleged to be involved, and ensure that the normal work of the ETO is not affected.”

Mr Lee emphasised that the ETO in London is tasked with maintaining close liaison with interlocutors in the local government, business, think tanks and various sectors, with a view to enriching bilateral ties in areas such as trade, investment, arts and culture as well as promoting the economic and trade interests of Hong Kong in that country.

The Chief Executive added that the central government firmly rejects the UK’s fabrication in the so-called case, and its unwarranted accusation against the Hong Kong SAR Government.

“The Chinese Embassy in the UK has made serious representations to the UK side on this matter. The Hong Kong SAR Government has demanded the UK government to provide full information on this matter.”
