Secretary for Justice Paul Lam (centre) attends the "Mediate First" Pledge Signing Ceremony at the School Mediation Seminar.

Featuring a series of events and a conference, Mediation Week 2024 launched today under the theme “Mediate First - Bridge Cultures, Build Futures”.

The five-day programme opened this morning with a School Mediation Seminar in which mediators, educators, students and parents discussed how they use mediation techniques to resolve conflicts in school settings, and the practical lessons they have learned from doing so.

The seminar, which attracted about 400 participants, also comprised a sharing session in which winners of the Mediation Essay Competition gave insights about their essays. This was followed by a prize presentation for the competition.

At the seminar’s conclusion, Secretary for Justice Paul Lam delivered closing remarks and officiated at a “Mediate First" Pledge Signing Ceremony for Students.

The Department of Justice said it will continue its efforts to promote mediation as an means to amicably resolve disputes in various sectors, thereby consolidating Hong Kong’s status as a centre for international legal and dispute resolution services in the Asia-Pacific region.
