Astronaut camp nominations to open

May 2, 2024

The Young Astronaut Training Camp 2024 is open for nominations from local secondary schools until May 31, the Leisure & Cultural Services Department announced today.

Selected participants will undergo astronaut training on the Mainland in a nine-day training camp to be held from late July to early August, free of charge. They will learn about space science, astronomy and China’s aerospace achievements.

The itinerary includes visiting major aerospace facilities such as Beijing Aerospace City and the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. In addition, participants will be able to meet aerospace experts and astronauts, and to attend lectures on space science and aerospace technology.

Other astronaut training activities include learning how to put on and take off a spacesuit, psychological training and blood-redistribution adaptability training.

Upon completion of the activities, participants will sit an examination and be presented with certificates.

Thirty places are available for the training camp. Candidates should be full-time students studying at Secondary 2 through 6 in the 2023-24 academic year. They must be aged 12 or above and be nominated by their school. Each school can nominate no more than two students.

There will be three rounds in the selection process: a quiz, a pre-tour training camp and an interview. Candidates who are graded outstanding will be selected to join the camp.
