CE to visit Guangzhou

April 11, 2024

Chief Executive John Lee will lead a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government delegation on a visit to Guangzhou today, before returning to Hong Kong in the evening.

This afternoon, he will attend the inaugural meeting of the Organising Committee of the 15th National Games and that of the Organising Committee of the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games.

"The Games, which will be co-hosted in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau next year, provide an excellent opportunity for Hong Kong to demonstrate its capability of organising major sports events,” Mr Lee said.

The Hong Kong SAR Government attaches great importance to preparatory work for the Games and will dovetail with the requirements of the General Administration of Sport of China while also liaising closely with the Guangdong Provincial Government and the Macao SAR Government to ensure the Games are "simple, safe and wonderful", he added.

Members of the Hong Kong SAR Government delegation include Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung, Director of the Chief Executive's Office Carol Yip, Permanent Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Joe Wong and Head of the National Games Coordination Office Yeung Tak-keung.
