April 10, 2024

Secretary for Transport & Logistics Lam Sai-hung today concluded his visit to Beijing by calling on the State Council Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office (HKMAO) and meeting national railway and civil aviation administrators.

In the morning, Mr Lam called on HKMAO Director Xia Baolong to brief him on the latest work progress on Hong Kong’s maritime, aviation and logistics developments.

He gave Mr Xia an introduction of the Action Plan on Modern Logistics Development and the Action Plan on Maritime & Port Development Strategy promulgated late last year.

Mr Lam said that under the support of the National 14th Five-Year Plan and the Greater Bay Area Outline Development Plan, Hong Kong will continue to consolidate and promote its status as an international maritime centre and aviation hub by leveraging its distinctive advantages of enjoying the strong support of the motherland and being closely connected to the world.

Mr Xia fully recognised the work of the Transport & Logistics Bureau.

The transport chief also met Administrator of the Civil Aviation Administration of China Song Zhiyong to update him on the development of Hong Kong’s aviation industry and discuss arrangements to further enhance the aviation connectivity between Hong Kong and the Mainland.

In the afternoon, Mr Lam held a meeting with Administrator of the National Railway Administration Fei Dongbin and representatives from the China State Railway Group, and expects to maintain close communication with both sides so as to continuously enhance high-speed rail services to cater for the needs of passengers.

Mr Lam arrived in Beijing yesterday and met Minister of Transport Li Xiaopen. He introduced Mr Li to Hong Kong’s transport and logistics developments in air, land and sea, and discussed ways to bring high-quality development to the bay area.

He also toured the control tower and terminal at Beijing Daxing International Airport that day, to understand their operations.

Mr Lam returned to Hong Kong this evening.
