CE mourns Eddy Li

Chief Executive John Lee today expressed his profound sorrow over the passing of Eddy Li and extended his deepest condolences to Mr Li’s family on behalf of the Government.

 

Mr Li served as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and was president of the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong, president of the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Association president, and executive president of the China Federation of Literary & Art Circles Hong Kong Members Association.

 

Having known Mr Li for many years, Mr Lee said he was a successful business leader and an outstanding industrialist who had contributed to the development of Hong Kong’s industrial and business community. Mr Li was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star in 2017.

 

The Chief Executive said the sudden passing of Mr Li is a great loss to Hong Kong society.

 

“He actively participated in various advisory and statutory bodies of the Government, providing valuable counsel on the development of the country and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

 

“Throughout the years, Mr Li was deeply involved in public and community services, making significant contributions in such areas as the economy, culture and youth development.”

 

Also mourning Mr Li, Financial Secretary Paul Chan said the industrialist "actively provided wise counsel and supported the Government's administration of policies, and made valuable contributions to the development of Hong Kong's industrial and business community."

 

Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung, Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn and Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Algernon Yau also expressed deep sorrow over Mr Li’s passing.

 

Mr Yeung noted that Mr Li was an antiques collector with a great passion for Chinese culture and a keen interest in photography.

 

“Not only did he strive to promote arts development over the years and spare no effort in conserving Chinese cultural relics, he also contributed valuable opinions in the Culture Commission. We are saddened by his passing.”

 

Meanwhile, Ms Linn said Mr Li held Hong Kong close to his heart, and had made tremendous contributions to promoting the revitalisation of old industrial buildings and innovation in the field of development.

 

“His enthusiasm and proactive attitude in serving Hong Kong has earned him much respect. Deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Li, I extend my deepest condolences to his family.”

 

For his part, Mr Yau highlighted that Mr Li was an outstanding industrialist and a successful entrepreneur who spared no effort to promote trade and industry in Hong Kong.

 

“Mr Li was deeply committed to public services with excellent performance, having served on various advisory boards such as the Trade Development Council and the Productivity Council and offered invaluable advice, making significant contributions to the development of trade and industry.

 

“Under his leadership, his business group was dedicated to promoting various charitable causes and made admirable contributions to society.”
