Hillside burials website launched

March 26, 2024

The Home Affairs Department today launched a one-stop thematic webpage to enable applicants for Burial Certificates to obtain information regarding hillside burials.

The webpage contains information about hillside burial arrangements, and provides an application form for the certificate, as well as points to note.

Applicants can also make use of an interactive map on the webpage to search for the geographical locations of Permitted Burial Grounds (PBGs). They can also download the site plan of each PBG.

Eligible indigenous New Territories villagers and locally based fishermen can be buried in the PBGs.

Before proceeding with burials of eligible deceased individuals in the PBGs, families are required to apply for certificates from their New Territories District Office (NTDO) and arrange burial in accordance with the requirements laid down in the certificates and at the specified locations.

For identification purposes, certificate holders must also inscribe the serial numbers of their certificates in a prominent position on gravestones, urns or containers of ashes.
