Secretary for Education Choi Yuk-lin announced that teachers and students participating in the Mainland study tours under the Citizenship & Social Development (CS) subject gave positive feedback.
 
The announcement came as the Education Bureau launched the CS Symposium and opening ceremony today for the roving exhibition on student learning outcomes of the Mainland study tours.
 
In her welcoming remarks, Ms Choi said over 50,000 students and 5,500 teachers are expected to participate in the study tours during this school year. Moreover, there will be new routes to places including Shanghai, Chongqing, Fujian, Shaanxi and Guizhou, in addition to those to Guangdong Province.
 
Apart from pointing out that the Mainland study tour is an integral part of the CS curriculum, Ms Choi noted that through experiential learning, students can learn about national affairs comprehensively, appreciate Chinese culture and understand the country's latest developments and achievements, so as to build their cultural confidence and national identity.
 
The education chief added that teachers and students participating in the study tours agreed that such tours enabled them to learn about the country from different perspectives and cultivate a sense of national identity.
 
Ms Choi also thanked related Mainland authorities and the education departments of related provinces and cities for their guidance and support.
 
To let the public learn more about students’ learning progress and outcomes of the study tours, the roving exhibition will be held from February to July in the Cultural Centre, City Gallery, the Tuen Mun Town Hall and the Tsuen Wan Town Hall.
