Alice Mak affirms DCs' functions
Secretary for Home & Youth Affairs Alice Mak said today that voter turnout for the 2023 District Council (DC) Ordinary Election may not shed particular light on how well the new DCs perform their enhanced advisory and service functions.
Miss Mak explained to lawmakers that the voter turnout for the election is affected by a range of factors.
She emphasised that the new DCs are composed of representatives from different sectors, with various expertise and district experiences, and are broadly representative, making them conducive to reflecting the overall interest of each district.
She also noted that the seventh term DCs will focus on serving the people and working with the Government to serve the community.
With the first DC meeting held in the first week of 2024, DCs have formulated a series of action plans, Miss Mak added.
Such plans include launching caring and district clean-up campaigns before the Chinese New Year, organising activities that promote the local economy, and setting up photo-taking spots with district characteristics.
