The Education Bureau said today that the Government has taken note of Prof Rocky Tuan’s resignation as Vice-Chancellor and President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), with effect from January 2025.
 

The bureau was responding to media enquiries regarding Prof Tuan’s tendering of his resignation to the CUHK Council. 
 

It said that under Prof Tuan’s tenure as Vice-Chancellor and President, which began in 2018, the university has pursued innovation in scientific research and given enterprises a pool of high-quality talent to recruit from, adding that the university has also received a number of national and international awards, and achieved remarkable results in world university rankings.
 

With the passing of the amended Chinese University of Hong Kong Ordinance in November 2023, the CUHK’s Council is undergoing improvements to its structure. The bureau stressed that raising the standards and effectiveness of the university’s governance marks an important step in the development of higher education in Hong Kong.

 
It added that the Government has full confidence that the council will make appropriate arrangements for the recruitment of a new Vice-Chancellor and President based on the university’s long-term interests and development needs, thereby enabling it to continue to provide quality education and nurture outstanding talent for the city and the country.
