Kevin Yeung begins Shanghai visit

Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung has so far met local officials, attended a culture conference and toured cultural facilities during a visit to Shanghai which began yesterday.

 

Calling on Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture & Tourism Director General Fang Shizhong today, Mr Yeung exchanged views with Mr Fang regarding cultural and tourism developments in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

 

In addition, he attended the Shanghai-Hong Kong City-to-City Culture Conference, which brought together officials and representatives of the cultural sectors of both cities.

 

Mr Yeung said: “Themed on ‘Cultural Big Data in Digital Era’, the conference facilitates dialogues and sharings in areas such as cultural innovation, cultural venue planning and development of the culture industry.

 

“I hope that the conference can promote cultural exchanges between Shanghai and Hong Kong, and deepen collaboration and the integrated development of the sector in the two places.”

 

Today’s programme also included visits to the Memorial Site of the 4th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the National Flag Education Exhibition Hall.

 

The Chief Executive’s 2023 Policy Address proposed setting up a museum to showcase China’s development and achievements, covering areas such as its history, politics, economic development and culture. With regard to these proposals, Mr Yeung said the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will learn from the curation experiences at various exhibitions, with a view to enriching the new museum’s content and enhancing public understanding of national affairs.

 

Separately, he toured the Shanghai Grand Theatre this afternoon to learn about venues and facilities for performing arts groups in Shanghai.

 

Arriving in Shanghai yesterday afternoon, Mr Yeung visited the Zhangyuan neighbourhood and viewed its public art installations. He then had a meeting with Director General of the Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal Government Kong Fuan, during which he gave updates on Hong Kong’s latest development and explored opportunities for collaboration.
