Christmas tree recycling set
The Environmental Protection Department today called on citizens and commercial and industrial organisations to recycle natural Christmas trees intended for disposal through its recycling programme.
Christmas trees collected under the programme, together with other yard waste, will be turned into various products for recycling or upcycling into decorations, wooden furniture, wood art products, and more.
From January 3 to 7, individuals and organisations can deliver their Christmas trees to a central collection point at Y·PARK.
If their Christmas trees are two metres tall or shorter, they may take them to one of the district collection points at 11 recycling stations and four refuse collection points.
If they wish to recycle their festive trees before January 3 or during January 8 to 20, 2024, they may be delivered to Y·PARK during operating hours.
The department reminded members of the public that the programme is limited to natural Christmas tree recycling and that all lighting, plastic stands, decorations and tape should be removed before delivery.
People are also encouraged to replant poinsettias and keep artificial Christmas trees and other festival decorations for reuse.
An e-certificate will be issued to participants who deliver natural Christmas trees to Y·PARK or recycling stations.
They will also receive a gift when they bring their Christmas trees to the recycling stations while stocks last.
