Secretary for Transport & Logistics Lam Sai-hung today participated in the Marintec China 2023 fair in Shanghai, and officiated at the opening ceremony of the China Hong Kong Pavilion at the event.
Mr Lam said at the ceremony that Hong Kong has long been recognised as one of the world’s leading maritime centres, adding that it continues to consolidate this status with staunch support from the motherland.
He highlighted that the Transport & Logistics Bureau will promulgate an action plan this month with a view to enhancing high-end maritime services, facilitating the transformation towards green shipping, and promoting smart initiatives and digitalisation in the maritime industry.
The plan will also aim to strengthen exchanges and collaboration among maritime industries in the Greater Bay Area and around the world, he added.
The transport chief expressed gratitude for the presence of Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry & Information Technology Xin Guobin, and thanked the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Marine Department and various participating exhibitors for their concerted efforts in telling good stories about Hong Kong at the exhibition.
Mr Lam and the delegation also had lunch with Shanghai maritime trade representatives to explore further co-operation opportunities.
He then met Vice Mayor of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government Zhang Xiaohong, Director of the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission Yu Fulin and Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce Zhang Jie to explore collaboration in the maritime sector.
The biennial Marintec China is the largest maritime event in Asia and the second largest in the world. The exhibition this year attracted more than 2,000 companies to display the latest products, technologies and concepts in the global shipbuilding industry.
