Tse Chin-wan attends C40 session

Secretary for Environment & Ecology Tse Chin-wan visits a technology company in Abu Dhabi and rides in an autonomous driving taxi.

Secretary for Environment & Ecology Tse Chin-wan took part in the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group's Steering Committee meeting on December 3 as part of his trip to the United Arab Emirates to attend the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

 

At the meeting in Dubai, Mr Tse exchanged views on topics such as green energy transformation and corporate social responsibility with other C40 Steering Committee members and shared the experience of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in such fields.

 

C40 is a global network of mayors who connect cities around the world to take urgent action to confront the climate crisis. Hong Kong became a member city in 2007 and is a C40 steering committee member for the Central East Asia Region.

 

Yesterday in Abu Dhabi, Mr Tse visited Hong Kong company Archireef and learnt about its latest 3D printing technology to create artificial habitats for marine species threatened by climate change. He also toured WeRide, a technology company of autonomous driving, where he was briefed about the technology.

 

While attending the COP28, Mr Tse met Head of Indonesia Agency for Meteorology, Climatology & Geophysics Dwikorita Karnawati and told her about the efforts the Hong Kong SAR Government is taking to combat climate change.

 

Together with Permanent Secretary for Financial Services & the Treasury (Financial Services) Salina Yan, the environment chief also met a Singaporean delegation led by Deputy Secretary of the Strategy Group at the Prime Minister's Office of Singapore Cindy Khoo.

 

They exchanged views on the strategies in carbon reduction in Hong Kong and Singapore and shared their experience on topics such as voluntary carbon market trading, sustainable finance, and green bonds.
