DC poll forum to be broadcast

November 29, 2023

The 2023 District Council Election Forum, produced by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), will be broadcast from December 1.

The forum aims to give voters a thorough understanding of the background, electoral platform and competency of individual district council candidates, as well as their views and recommendations regarding district matters.

It will be broadcast on RTHK TV Channel 31 for seven consecutive days from December 1 to 7. The radio version will be broadcast concurrently on RTHK Radio 2.

Times for the TV broadcast are 9.30pm, from Friday to Monday, and 6.30pm and 9.30pm, from Tuesday to Thursday. The radio version will be broadcast from 9pm to midnight, Monday to Friday, and from 8pm to midnight on Saturday and Sunday.

The forum consists of a session on District Council geographical constituencies (DCGCs) and a session on District Committee constituencies (DCCs). Each candidate will introduce his or her election platform and respond to one question on a relevant local issue.

The session introducing 171 candidates for the 44 DCGCs will be broadcast from December 1 to December 4, while the session involving 228 candidates running in the 18 DCCs will be broadcast from December 5 to December 7.

The Government said it aims to provide candidates with equal opportunities to present their election platforms and views to the public. It added that the forum will help people to understand the improvements which have been made to the district governance system and how the reforms will improve governance and livelihoods.

RTHK has also produced eight episodes of a TV programme, Get a comprehensive view of the DC election, and 10 episodes of a radio programme, Know more about the DC election, to inform the public about the election.
