CE begins Shanghai visit

Chief Executive John Lee began his visit in Shanghai today where apart from meeting Hong Kong people, representatives of Hong Kong enterprises and government officials there, he witnessed the signing of co-operation agreements and memoranda of understanding.

 

Upon arrival in Shanghai at noon, Mr Lee met and exchanged views with Hong Kong people and representatives of Hong Kong firms in Shanghai to learn more about their work, studies and daily life.

 

Noting that they have been making significant contributions to the co-operation and development between the two places, Mr Lee said he hopes they will continue to support the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's efforts in liaison and promotion work in Shanghai and the Eastern China region.

 

In the afternoon, he met CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee Secretary Chen Jining, and Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng. Mr Lee thanked the Shanghai Municipal Government for providing assistance to Hong Kong's participation in the China International Import Expo.

 

The Chief Executive said this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong/Shanghai Co-operation Conference and added that he looks forward to pursuing broader, deeper, and higher-level collaboration between both places.

 

After the meeting, Mr Lee and Mr Gong jointly witnessed the signing of five co-operation agreements or memoranda of understanding on enhancing co-operation in the area of vocational and higher education, scientific research and people training, research and innovation, industry collaboration, and international arbitration.

 

Mr Lee then visited Shanghai United Family Hospital (ChangNing) where he received a briefing on the latest development of local healthcare services with the goal of understanding the development of Hong Kong-funded private medical services in Shanghai.

 

Furthermore, Financial Secretary Paul Chan visited the SAIC Group. In addition to discovering more about its innovative developments in new energy vehicles and technologies in electric intelligent connected vehicles, he learnt more about its business expansion plans.
