3 events awarded ‘M’ Mark status

November 3, 2023

The Major Sports Events Committee today announced that it has awarded “M” Mark status to three major international sports events due to be held in the coming week.

Golf’s Hong Kong Open 2023 will take place from November 9 to 12, while the FIA World Rallycross Championship Hong Kong, China - Season Finale 2023, is on November 11 and 12. The New World Harbour Race 2023, a cross-harbour swimming event, will be held on November 12.

The Hong Kong Open 2023 returns to the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling as part of the Asian Tour’s International Series, while the rallycross event is happening in Hong Kong for the first time and marks the first city-centre circuit in the series’ history. The New World Harbour Race, whose history dates back to 1906, welcomes swimmers from around the world.

Committee Chairman Wilfred Ng said the three activities will make November an exhilarating month for major sports events in Hong Kong.

He added that the events’ colour and vibrancy will attract more visitors from abroad to visit the city, and that they will showcase Hong Kong’s capabilities in hosting world-class events, enhancing its status as a centre for major international sporting occasions.

The “M” Mark system aims to encourage and assist local and national sports associations, as well as private and non-governmental organisations, to organise more sports events and grow them into sustainable initiatives.
