Secretary for Housing Winnie Ho (front row, third right) inspects the production lines of the China Overseas Innovation & Technology (Zhuhai) Company during a visit to Zhuhai.

Secretary for Housing Winnie Ho today visited Zhuhai and Shenzhen to gain an understanding of Multi-trade Integrated Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MiMEP) in the Greater Bay Area.

Ms Ho visited the digital pavilion and production lines of the China Overseas Innovation & Technology (Zhuhai) Company and was briefed on the production processes of the MiMEP modules.

By applying the modular integrated method, it integrates multi-trade building services components into a single assembly of prefabricated modules, which are manufactured in a factory and then transported to the site for connection of modules to complete various trades of building services installations on-site more effectively and efficiently.

Ms Ho said a wide adoption of MiMEP can help address the labour shortage while reducing the time of installing electrical and mechanical installations on-site.

This can further enhance site safety and building quality as well as reduce construction waste, and is conductive to enhancing the speed, efficiency, quantity and quality of housing supply, she added.

The housing chief then proceeded to Qianhai, Shenzhen. Accompanied by Party Secretary and Housing & Construction Bureau of Shenzhen Director-General Xu Songming, she toured the Qianhai Exhibition Hall and the Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base to understand the urban planning which includes indemnificatory housing.

Ms Ho also shared with leaders of local housing and construction offices Hong Kong's public housing development and management experience. She also exchanged views with Shenzhen's professional teams to draw on each other's experience when setting future directions.
