Secretary for Education Choi Yuk-lin today visited City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) and received a briefing by the university’s management on the progress of its campus development.
 
While touring the campus and a variety of teaching and research facilities, Ms Choi said she was pleased to learn that the first phase of the campus construction was officially completed last month and that the university was pressing ahead with its official establishment.
 
She also noted that the Education Bureau supports Hong Kong’s higher education institutions to pursue different forms of collaboration in the Greater Bay Area’s Mainland cities.
 
This can leverage the characteristics and competitive edges of Hong Kong’s higher education sector, create favourable conditions for scientific research and development, knowledge transfer and commercialisation, as well as promote exchanges and research activities of high academic standard among teachers and students in the bay area, she explained.
 
In addition, she expressed hope that with its first-class educational resources and strengths in various disciplines, City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan), upon its official commissioning, will contribute to the nurturing of innovative and internationalised top-notch talent for the country.
 
Yesterday, Ms Choi led education sector delegates to visit Tsinglan School in Dongguan where they met its representatives and learnt about the school’s bilingual and international education philosophy and practical experience.
 
Afterwards, they called on the headquarters of Huawei to understand the latest innovation and technology development on the Mainland, and went to Canvest Environmental Protection Group’s China Scivest WTE Plant to learn about initiatives on environmental protection education.
 
The education chief concluded her visit to Dongguan and returned to Hong Kong this afternoon.
