In response to claims on social media that Shenzhen intends to discharge water, causing a risk of flooding in Hong Kong’s North District, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today clarified that such reports are fake news and entirely groundless and fictitious.

It said in a press statement that the public should pay attention to announcements made via the Government’s official channels, and urged people not to believe fabricated rumours.

It also stressed that if the Hong Kong SAR Government is ever notified of water being discharged from Shenzhen, it will inform the public as soon as possible and take relevant actions and arrangements to protect public safety, in accordance with established mechanisms.

Condemning those responsible for the rumours, the Hong Kong SAR Government made it clear that law enforcement agencies will take follow-up actions.
