Arson suspect returned to Hong Kong
The Hong Kong Police Force took over custody of a 34-year-old male suspect from Mainland authorities at the Shenzhen Bay Port today.
An arrest warrant had earlier been issued against him in connection with an arson incident in Wan Chai on September 30, 2019. He has been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit arson with intent and an alternative charge of possessing items with intent to destroy or damage property.
The man is alleged to have fled Hong Kong and was arrested by Mainland authorities in Mainland waters in August 2020. An arrest warrant was issued against him at the District Court on September 8, 2020.
The man was returned to Hong Kong following the conclusion of legal proceedings by Mainland authorities. The case is being handled by the Hong Kong Police Force’s Commercial Crime Bureau and National Security Department. The man has been arraigned to appear at the District Court tomorrow.
