SJ to visit Chengdu, Beijing
Secretary for Justice Paul Lam will lead a delegation from the Hong Kong legal and dispute resolution sector on a visit to Chengdu and Beijing from August 23 to 26.
The visit aims to further promote co-operation and exchange between the Mainland and Hong Kong, and to encourage Mainland enterprises to make use of Hong Kong’s legal and dispute resolution professional services.
The delegation comprises more than 100 representatives from the Hong Kong Bar Association, the Law Society of Hong Kong, and legal enterprises, as well as other delegates.
Mr Lam and the delegation will visit Chengdu on Thursday to attend the sixth Hong Kong Legal Services Forum, organised by the Department of Justice.
The next day, in Beijing, the group will attend the second seminar on legal challenges relating to the Belt & Road Initiative.
Organised by the State Council’s State-owned Assets Supervision & Administration Commission, this year’s seminar will focus on discussing the strength of Hong Kong’s common law system.
It will also highlight how Hong Kong’s legal services can support Mainland enterprises to “go global” and help them to overcome the legal challenges and risks faced by such enterprises in expanding to overseas markets.
In addition to visiting the Tianfu Central Legal Services District in Chengdu, while in Beijing the justice chief will meet students and organising authorities participating in the Summer Attachment Programme for Hong Kong Law Students in the Mainland.
During Mr Lam's absence, Deputy Secretary for Justice Cheung Kwok-kwan will be Acting Secretary.
