Western crossing to use HKeToll

August 4, 2023

HKeToll will be implemented at the Western Harbour Crossing from 5am on Sunday to replace all manual toll booths and Autotoll lanes, the Transport Department announced today.

Motorists can drive through the toll plaza and pay tunnel tolls using HKeToll without having to stop or queue at toll booths.

To tie in with the implementation of the HKeToll service, temporary traffic arrangements will be imposed in phases in the vicinity from 10pm tomorrow.

The speed limit on the West Kowloon Highway towards Hong Kong Island will be reduced to 70km per hour starting from Hoi Ying Estate, and will be reduced to 50km per hour near Olympian City 1 and beyond.

Both directions of the crossing and the slip roads leading to it will be closed from 4am to 5am on Sunday, during which two overnight franchised bus routes will be diverted via the Cross-Harbour Tunnel (CHT).

As of yesterday, about 800,000 vehicle tags have been issued, accounting for about 98% of licensed vehicles in Hong Kong, of which about 87% of vehicle owners have opened HKeToll accounts.

To fully enjoy the convenience of HKeToll, the department urged vehicle owners to install a vehicle tag, open an HKeToll account and set up an automatic payment means as soon as possible.

It also reminded them to pay the toll within 14 business days after passing through the tunnel.

For assistance, call 3853 7333 or visit the customer service centres or service counters.

HKeToll collected the tolls of about 300,000 vehicle trips on average per day at the Tsing Sha Control Area, Shing Mun Tunnels, Lion Rock Tunnel and the CHT.

The Government plans to implement HKeToll at the Eastern Harbour Crossing on August 27.
