Civil service exams set

August 3, 2023

The Government today announced that the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) and the Basic Law & National Security Law Test (BLNST) are tentatively scheduled to be held on October 7.

Enrolment for the CRE and the BLNST will open tomorrow and close at 5pm on August 13. Prospective applicants for civil service posts at the degree or professional level can apply.

Furthermore, the Government said it will begin the next round of recruitment exercises for six graduate posts in September, covering Administrative Officer, Executive Officer II, Assistant Labour Officer II, Assistant Trade Officer II, Management Services Officer II and Transport Officer II.

Those who plan to apply for such posts are required to have valid CRE results and are advised to take this round of examination, the Government added.

The pool of eligible candidates for civil service jobs requiring an undergraduate degree will be expanded to students advancing to their third year of undergraduate studies, in a four-year curriculum, in the new academic year.

Hence, holders of a degree or a professional qualification meeting the entry requirement of the posts, or university students graduating in the 2023-24 or 2024-25 academic year can apply to sit the examination.

All applicants are required to obtain a pass result in the BLNST for all civil service recruitment exercises, regardless of whether they have taken any Basic Law Test centrally conducted by the Civil Service Bureau or individual bureaus and departments in previous recruitment exercises.

Details about the upcoming CRE and BLNST will be uploaded to the bureau's webpage tomorrow.

The examination outside Hong Kong is tentatively scheduled to be held in Beijing, Shanghai and six overseas cities on December 2. The application period will be announced later this year.
