Paul Chan meets finance experts

July 7, 2023

Financial Secretary Paul Chan today continued his visit to Shanghai and met New Development Bank President and former Brazil President Dilma Rousseff.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on the global economic situation, financial services development and Hong Kong’s assistance to the New Development Bank on its businesses and growth.

Mr Chan also called on the China Foreign Exchange Trade System and spoke to its president Zhang Yi on how the Mainland and Hong Kong could enhance the connection of financial infrastructure with each other.

He then toured a leading Mainland pharmaceutical company and discussed the development of the biomedicine industry.

Additionally, the finance chief delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the Asian Logistics, Maritime & Aviation Conference Satellite Conference - A New Chapter of Hong Kong-Shanghai Collaboration this morning.

As Shanghai and Hong Kong are the world-class ports of the Yangtze River Delta Region and the Greater Bay Area, the two cities can join hands and leverage their strengths to explore more areas of co-operation, in order enhance the efficiency of cargo delivery to places all over the world, Mr Chan noted.

Separately, Mr Chan spoke at a luncheon organised by Invest Hong Kong, the Hong Kong & Economic Trade Office in Shanghai and Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing to promote Hong Kong’s distinctive advantages to Shanghai’s commercial and industrial sectors, and encourage them to make use of Hong Kong for international expansion.

In the evening, he met Hong Kong people and enterprises in Shanghai.

The Financial Secretary will return to Hong Kong tomorrow.
