Govt receives rail reports
The Government today received the Mass Transit Railway Corporation’s (MTRC) comprehensive review report and the Independent Monitoring Panel's (IMP) report in relation to two train incidents in 2022.
Noting that the MTRC’s top priority is to provide safe, reliable and efficient railway services, Secretary for Transport & Logistics Lam Sai-hung said the review scrutinised the corporation's asset management and maintenance regime comprehensively and thoroughly for improvements.
Following two train incidents that occurred on the Tsuen Wan Line and Tseung Kwan O Line on November 13 and December 5, the MTRC appointed an expert panel to conduct a comprehensive review of its asset management and maintenance regime, while the Government established the IMP to closely monitor the review.
The IMP made 13 recommendations, including an upgrade to technology-led maintenance, the enhancement on identification and mitigation of high-consequence low-frequency risk items, formation of a dedicated team for maintenance quality assurance and putting in more resources for asset upkeep and replacement.
The bureau noted that the IMP had confirmed the MTRC had incorporated the panel's findings and recommendations in its review.
Mr Lam said the MTRC will be closely monitored to ensure full implementation of the follow-up measures put forward in its review report.
“We will also monitor and review their effectiveness to ensure the MTRC's asset management and maintenance work keeps pace with the times, and that the corporation continues to provide safe and reliable railway services,” he added.
