Chinese painting master mourned

June 14, 2023

Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung today expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chinese painting master Huang Yongyu and extended his deepest condolences Mr Huang’s family.

Mr Huang was a renowned figure in the painting world and was showered with honours. Blending rich Chinese accents and western elements, his paintings were not only unique but also inspired the succeeding generations.

Mr Huang was also a prominent print artist and poet. His poems were modest, moving and thought-provoking.

In 2004, the Museum of Art hosted an exhibition reviewing Mr Huang's work at age 80, and retains eight of his ink paintings and print arts.

Mr Yeung said: “We are saddened by Mr Huang's passing, but his work will surely echo down the ages and he will be remembered fondly.”
