Secretary for Labour & Welfare Chris Sun wrapped up his visit to Switzerland by attending the plenary sitting of the 111th Session of the International Labour Conference.

The labour chief attended the conference as part of the People's Republic of China (PRC) delegation on the morning of June 9, during which Human Resources & Social Security Minister Wang Xiaoping delivered an address on the country’s labour affairs development. 

That afternoon, Mr Sun and officials held a bilateral meeting with International Labour Organization (ILO) Assistant Director-General and ILO Office for Asia & the Pacific Regional Director Chihoko Asada-Miyakawa.

He introduced the latest situation of Hong Kong’s labour market, economy, employment and application of International Labour Conventions.

Mr Sun also outlined the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's support and welfare to foreign domestic helpers working in the city.

Apart from sitting in committees of the conference, Mr Sun met the Ministry of Human Resources & Social Security’s senior officials and representatives of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and the China Enterprise Confederation as part of the PRC delegation on the sidelines of the meetings to discuss various labour policies and labour relations issues.

Mr Sun also called on Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the PRC to the United Nations Office at Geneva & Other International Organizations in Switzerland Chen Xu. They exchanged views on further deepening the exchange and co-operation between Hong Kong, China and the ILO.

In addition, the labour chief had in-depth discussions with the Labour Advisory Board employee and employer members attending the conference on policy initiatives of mutual concern.

Earlier, upon arrival in Geneva on June 8, Mr Sun toured the EHL Hospitality Business School's campus facilities in Lausanne and learnt more about its curriculum.

He met EHL Group Chief Academic Officer Juan-Francisco Perellon and updated him on the recent strong rebound in Hong Kong's tourism and hotel industries, adding that the sector has a thirst for talent and Hong Kong welcomes professionals from around the world to come and pursue development via various talent admission schemes.

Mr Sun will arrive back in Hong Kong tomorrow afternoon.
