Health chief views Shanghai hospital

June 10, 2023

Secretary for Health Prof Lo Chung-mau continued his visit to Shanghai today by calling on Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University and exchanged views with Hong Kong people living in the city.

Prof Lo met the hospital’s President Fan Jia and its Cardiology Department Director Ge Junbo to learn about the hospital’s work.

The delegation also visited the hospital’s Center for Interventional Cardiology and toured the set-up for a smart hospital there.

Prof Lo told Dr Fan that Hong Kong has been driving the development of smart healthcare with the Hospital Authority's (HA) support and facilitation.

“Over the years, the HA has been striving to usher in innovative technology to enhance public healthcare services, and at the same time exploring and implementing different systems to support the development of a smart hospital.

“Smart hospital and smart healthcare will be the future strategic goals of profound significance for increasing the healthcare efficiency and achieving a sustainable development of healthcare services."

During his meeting with Dr Ge, Prof Lo pointed out that the Mainland has been pressing ahead with the adoption of a systematic approach in all chest pain centres at full speed since 2016 by launching various accreditation works.

“Dr Ge has been sparing no effort in the setting up of standardised chest pain centres across the country, and formulating of a co-ordinated system and standard of treatment for chest pain, thereby largely reducing the duration for treatment and taking the country's treatment for acute myocardial infarction to a higher level. Such achievements are valuable reference for Hong Kong.”

Under the arrangement of the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Shanghai, the delegation also met Hong Kong people living in Shanghai for lunch to understand more about their daily lives.

The delegation will attend the China Organ Donation Day event tomorrow before returning to Hong Kong in the evening.
