Summer internships launched

June 5, 2023

Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki today officiated at the kick-off ceremony of the Scheme on Corporate Summer Internship on the Mainland & Overseas 2023.

The 24 participating corporates are providing a total of 328 internship placements covering different industries in various cities in the Mainland as well as overseas countries.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Chan noted that youth development is a priority of the current-term Government and it re-launched the scheme as soon as Hong Kong’s connection with the Mainland and the world resumed. He added that the Government would continue to rally the efforts of all sectors in society to support youth development on all fronts.

Hester Hayes Chan, who is studying Management with Marketing at the University of Bath in the UK, said she was excited to be joining Shanghai K11 Art Mall this summer.

“I hope to improve my language and communication skills, especially my Mandarin. I also hope to network as I do not really know anyone in Shanghai.”

Genevieve Tam studies Information Systems & Analytics at the University of Hong Kong and will be working at Tencent’s Shenzhen office. With a keen interest in the growing Internet industry, she is looking forward to learning about the tech giant's commercial and technical capabilities.

“I would like to see the market trends and see if I can gain any market exposure and market insight during my journey in Tencent.”

Fellow intern, University of Hong Kong Urban Planning student Chloe Lam chose to venture overseas. She will be working in the Mass Transit Railway Corporation's associated company in London.

“One of the reasons I chose London is because there are similarities between Hong Kong and London. First of all, both are global cities. Also, the London MTR will provide great inspiration to my career path.”

The recruited interns will depart from mid-June onwards to undertake internships of no less than six weeks.
