Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung today met Shandong Provincial Department of Culture & Tourism Director-General Wang Lei to discuss cultural and tourism co-operation between Hong Kong and Shandong.

Noting that Hong Kong is positioned as an East-meets-West centre for cultural exchange under the National 14th Five-Year Plan, Mr Yeung said the country's Culture & Tourism Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area clearly supports the city in developing into a tourism hub and a core demonstration zone for multi-destination tourism.

Shandong is rich in tourism and cultural resources, and both places can collaborate to create unique experiences in Chinese culture and tourism as well as tell the good stories of the nation and Hong Kong, he pointed out.

Various performing groups in Shandong have been invited to join the Leisure & Cultural Services Department's (LCSD) China Opera Festival, while the Provincial Department of Culture & Tourism jointly organised "Genesis & Spirit - Enchanting Shandong · An Exhibition on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Shandong" with the LCSD in 2019.

On the tourism front, the Hong Kong Tourism Board arranged for Shandong travel agents to join the "Hello Hong Kong" Mainland China Travel Trade Familiarization Group in Hong Kong and the meetings, incentive travels, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) industry meetup in Shanghai this year.

The arrangement offers the latest information on MICE travel and the most direct resources matching platform to facilitate the recovery of Hong Kong's MICE tourism.
