Govt aims to build a better, caring city

Secretary for Labour & Welfare Chris Sun said the Government aims to build a better and caring Hong Kong.

Mr Sun made the remark today after attending a social welfare event, Starting a New chapter in Hong Kong Social Welfare Summit.

During the forum in Wan Chai, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR Zheng Yanxiong gave a speech concerning the social welfare sector.

In response to a reporter’s question on what he thought about the address, Mr Sun said: “I am sure Mr Zheng's speech is a full recognition of the contribution and good work of our social welfare sector.

“What he outlines is three broad directions, mainly once again calling upon the welfare sector to stay true to our mission, to unite together and to provide support and services to those in need in a very concrete way.”

The welfare chief added that he has been trying to unite the social welfare sector, making use of the city's wide network services, great social workers, and all people for providing much needed services to the city’s elderly and disabled people.

“This is a way to help us to unite together and to make use of our resources, to make use of our energy, and most important of all, to make use of our passion to build a better and caring Hong Kong.”

Also at the summit, Chief Executive John Lee pointed out that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will sign a memorandum of co-operation with Guangdong authorities to strengthen elderly care collaboration.
