Chinese opera festival returns
The Leisure & Cultural Services Department will hold the Chinese Opera Festival from June to October, after a three-year hiatus. Tickets will be available from May 12.
Various Chinese opera troupes will stage nine quality operatic programmes covering different theatrical genres in this year’s festival.
It will showcase The Legend of the White Snake in various theatrical genres, with the Peking Opera Theatre of Beijing kicking off the festival, followed by the Sichuan Opera Troupe, which will demonstrate artistic flavour of the Sichuan region. The Zhejiang Wu Opera Research Centre will integrate martial arts into the performance.
The festival's grand finale will be held outdoors at a large makeshift bamboo theatre at Victoria Park. Top-notch performers will present a traditional Cantonese opera repertoire to embody Hong Kong's authentic Cantonese operatic culture.
Other highlights include Kunqu, Qu, Han and Yue operas.
There will also be talks, meet-the-artists sessions, exhibitions and film screenings.
Tickets will be available from May 12 at URBTIX and the Xiqu Centre Ticket Office.
