Museum summit opens

March 24, 2023

The Museum Summit 2023 opened in Hong Kong today, assembling leading figures and professionals from world-renowned museums and institutions in 16 countries to share their experiences, research findings and innovative concepts.

The two-day mega event, with "Between” as its theme, started with Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki giving the opening remarks.

Noting that Hong Kong is back onstage after three years of the pandemic, Mr Chan said the summit marks a fresh beginning for practitioners in the museum and heritage sectors in Hong Kong and around the world to establish and renew partnerships.

Thanks to the motherland's strong support under the National 14th Five-Year Plan, the Culture, Sports & Tourism Bureau is developing Hong Kong, at full steam, into an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange, he added.

“One of the bureau's priority tasks is to map out a comprehensive blueprint for the development of arts and culture as well as creative industries in Hong Kong.

“A key aspect of this blueprint will be on upgrading the city's arts and cultural facilities, including museums for sure. This year's summit will definitely give us much food for thought.”

There are four thematic sessions in the summit: Between Worlds, Between Times, Between Peoples, and Between Spaces, covering topics such as the reinvention of cultural facilities, the connection between museums and their communities as well as online and offline integration made possible by new technologies.
