Welfare cases drop slightly

The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance caseload slightly decreased by 19 cases to 206,430 in February, remaining more or less the same as that of January, the Social Welfare Department announced today.

 

The total number of recipients stood at 285,310.

 

Unemployment cases registered a month-to-month drop of 0.3% to 17,919 cases, while low-earnings cases dipped 0.2% to 1,842 cases.

 

Both old age cases and single parent cases were down 0.1% to 116,048 cases and 21,989 cases.

 

Ill-health cases rose 0.5% to 27,407 cases, while permanent disability cases increased 0.1% to 17,297 cases.
