Corporate intern scheme launched
The Government today announced the launch of a new round of the Scheme on Corporate Summer Internship on the Mainland & Overseas to provide the young people of Hong Kong with more than 320 internship places.
The Chief Executive stated in the 2022 Policy Address that the Government will work with all sectors of the community to promote a variety of activities to broaden the horizons of youngsters and enable them to acquire a better understanding of the development of the country and the world.
Meanwhile, the Youth Development Blueprint released by the Home & Youth Affairs Bureau earlier said that the internship and exchange programmes on the Mainland and overseas would be further enhanced.
The number of companies participating in the Scheme on Corporate Summer Internship on the Mainland & Overseas 2023 has increased to 24 from 18 in the previous round, offering more than 320 internship placements in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Chengdu, Chongqing and various cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The internship placements also include overseas countries including Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, the UK and Sweden.
The placements cover a wider range of industries than before, such as financial services, innovation and technology, logistics, property development, retail, hospitality and public utilities.
The applicants should be Hong Kong permanent residents who are post-secondary students, including those in sub-degree, undergraduate or postgraduate programmes. The internship will take place between June and September and last for no less than six weeks.
Noting that the scheme will be resumed with the resumption of normal travel between Hong Kong and other places, Secretary for Home & Youth Affairs Alice Mak said she is delighted with the enthusiastic responses from the business sector within a short period of time.
“More than 20 large corporates show their support by offering diverse and quality internship placements. In particular, I would like to thank all participating companies for sponsoring the interns for major expenses including transportation and accommodation costs, and assigning dedicated personnel to provide training and support to the interns.”
She added that a cohort of young talent will be groomed with an understanding of the country's development and a global perspective through the concerted efforts of the Government and corporates.
Applications should be submitted via the scheme webpage on or before March 28. Each person can apply for up to three companies in one single application.
Upon receiving the applications, participating companies will contact the applicants directly for the assessment and selection process and make placement arrangements for selected interns.
