CE meets Guangzhou mayor

February 13, 2023

Chief Executive John Lee today met Mayor of the Guangzhou Municipal Government Guo Yonghang to exchange views on deepening co-operation between Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

Welcoming Mr Guo and the visiting delegation after normal travel between Hong Kong and the Mainland had fully resumed, Mr Lee said both cities enjoy close geographical and cultural ties and maintain close co-operation among governments, the business sector and the community.

He noted that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will proactively integrate into the overall development of the country and will fully leverage the unique advantages of Hong Kong with the strong support of the motherland and the city’s close connection with the world under the "one country, two systems" principle.

The city is deepening co-operation with Guangzhou and other cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, he added.

The Chief Executive said the Hong Kong SAR Government will fully support Nansha to become a high-standard gateway for opening up within the bay area, while strengthening Hong Kong's ties with Guangzhou in innovation and technology, finance, education, and youth innovation and employment.

"As the epidemic situation stabilises and the travel between Hong Kong and the Mainland has resumed, I will visit Guangdong Province, particularly cities in the GBA very soon and discuss with the leaders of the province and its cities to bring the mutual co-operation to new heights,” Mr Lee said.
